FACILIITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURES
Aigues –Mortes, 1284. King Louis IX of France is departing for the seventh crusade. As others had done before him, he entrusted his entire army’s logistics including the sea transportation to the Holy Land and the resupply of a 15,000 men strong expeditionary corps to the Genoese.
Crimea, 1853. The newcomer on the international political scene, the Kingdom of Sardinia, decides to join Western European powers in the Crimean War against the Czar. The expeditionary corps was sea-transported and supplied by Genoese contractors.
Bosnia, 1995. The peace has been signed at Dayton and the SFOR has replaced IFOR in maintaining peace and control over the ex-Yugoslavia war theatre. These 54,000 men strong forces, composed by contingents coming from 32 different countries, have been supplied in any circumstances with rations and food by a Genoese contractor.

These examples are only a few from the rich history of our little nation, forced by the lack of agricultural inland to search his fortunes on the seas and trades. And in trade we were born, nourished by our ancestors’ values: respect absolute of the word given, fairness, self-confidence, sobriety, and resourcefulness. Genoa is not anymore a sovereign state as she has been for 800 years but is still a vibrant city where high tech and shipping industry, arts tourism and logistic mix in an exciting feeling of activity and progress.
